⚙️ Key Features
- Genuine Volvo Penta Oil Control Valve Guide Sleeve - part number 20860343
- Precision guide sleeve for the oil-housing regulating plunger
- Matched to control plunger 20862028 and spring 20860334
- Maintains plunger alignment and controlled running clearance
- Internal ports and shoulders align the correct oil galleries
- Surface finish is critical to prevent sticking and bypass leakage
- Install perfectly clean and inspect the housing for scoring or embedded debris
- Engine type: D5/D7-series oil-cooler and oil-filter housings
🔌 Function
The sleeve forms the working bore in which the oil-control plunger moves. It keeps the plunger aligned, meters leakage around the moving element and positions the plunger relative to the oil galleries so the filter/cooler bypass circuit operates at the intended pressure.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Plunger sticks or moves sluggishly
- Scored bore or metal transfer on the sleeve surface
- Unstable oil pressure as the valve hunts or leaks internally
- Wear creates excessive clearance and uncontrolled bypass flow
- Contamination prevents the sleeve seating fully in the housing
🛠️ Service Notes
- Check which way round the sleeve goes before the old one comes out — sleeves are rarely symmetrical, and one end is usually chamfered or stepped to lead into the bore
- Clean and inspect the bore it seats in; a sleeve takes its final shape and fit from that bore, so corrosion, scoring or an oval bore will spoil a new part
- Draw or press the sleeve in square with the correct tool rather than driving it in — a sleeve started crooked will nip, and the material displaced by a hammer blow never fully recovers
- Renew any O-ring, seal or gasket that seats against the sleeve while it is out, and lubricate on assembly as the manual for your engine specifies
- Confirm the sleeve is fully home to the depth or flush condition the workshop manual gives before reassembling anything on top of it
