• Level readings that will not repeat between checks
• Blade found bent, kinked or with the markings worn illegible
• Handle or seal loose in the guide tube, so the stick sits at the wrong depth
• Oil weeping from the top of the guide tube
• A level reading that does not agree with the oil quantity put in at a service

• A dipstick is specific to its sump and guide tube - one from another installation reads a false level, so check the front-sump listing before ordering
• Renew the guide tube O-ring 20926322 and check guide tube 20926318 while the dipstick is out
• Verify the reading against the correct oil quantity after the first service with a new stick
