• Localised overheating or piston-crown and skirt scuffing found on strip-down if it is a cooling jet that has stopped flowing
• Orifice found blocked with carbon or coke
• Tip found eroded, so the jet is no longer aimed or metered correctly
• Seat or sealing face found damaged, letting pressure past instead of through the nozzle
