Clamps a pipe, harness or small component against its support so it cannot move or chafe.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Pipe or harness found loose and rubbing where the plate should hold it
• Plate bent, so it no longer clamps
• Fixing hole pulled, or the plate cracked at a fold
• Chafe marks or bare metal on the item it was meant to retain

🛠️ Service Notes

• Note which way round the plate sits before removal; a retaining plate fitted reversed can foul, or leave the part it holds with the wrong end float
• Check the plate for distortion, wear grooves and cracking around the fastener holes, and check the face it clamps against for the same
• Make sure it seats fully flat before the fasteners are tightened, and tighten evenly to the figures in the workshop manual for your engine
• Use the locking arrangement the manual specifies — new locking hardware, tab washers or thread locking compound as applicable
• Check that the retained component has the correct end float or freedom of movement once the plate is fitted and fully tightened
