Carries oil between two points on the engine along a fixed route, its ends formed to seal against the mating housings.

- Oil weeping or dripping at an end fitting
- Oil pressure falling with a visible external leak
- Tube chafed or fretted where it passes a bracket
- Sealing faces scored so a new seal will not hold
