🔌 Function

🛠️ Service Notes

• Keep valves in strict order as they come out so anything reused goes back in its own guide and seat, and measure stem, guide and seat wear against the figures in the workshop manual for your engine before deciding what to reuse
• Check a new valve for straightness and check that the seat face is clean and unmarked before it goes anywhere near the head
• Clean carbon from the port and the seat, then grind or lap the valve to its seat and confirm a continuous, even seating band right round
• Renew the valve stem seals, cotters and any spring hardware the manual calls for while the head is apart — the cost is trivial against a second strip-down
• Check valve recession or protrusion relative to the head face, and clearance to the piston, against the manual figures for your engine before final assembly, then set the valve clearances to the manual figures once the head is back on and recheck them after the first running period
