• Fit each gasket and seal dry unless the workshop manual for your engine calls for a sealant or a specific compound at that joint, and then use only what it specifies
• Treat every item as single-use: a gasket that has been pulled up and slacked off again should be replaced, not reused
• Follow the tightening sequences and figures in the manual for your engine, and carry out any post-run re-torque or clearance check it calls for
