🔧 Product Description

A genuine Volvo Penta combustion-sealing head gasket for D6 six-cylinder marine diesels. Its longer six-cylinder profile seals the cylinder bores, coolant passages and oil drillings between the block and cylinder head; it is not a valve-cover gasket.

🔌 Function

Seals combustion pressure, coolant and lubricating oil between the D6 cylinder block and cylinder head.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Coolant loss or pressurised hoses
  • Coolant or oil contamination between passages
  • External leakage along the head-to-block joint

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Fit a new gasket every time the joint is disturbed — a gasket takes a permanent set once it has been torqued and will not seal reliably a second time
  • Scrape both faces back to clean bare metal, keeping the blade at a shallow angle so it lifts the old material without gouging the surface, and use a plastic scraper on aluminium castings
  • Check the faces for flatness, cracks and corrosion pitting, and make sure no old gasket, carbon or hardened sealant is left in the corners or around the bolt holes
  • Fit the gasket dry unless the workshop manual for your engine calls for a sealant, and then only the type it specifies — surplus sealant squeezes out into oil, coolant and fuel passages
  • Draw the fasteners down progressively in the sequence and to the torque given in the manual for your engine, and recheck after the first heat cycle where the manual asks for it
