• Renew it if the rubber is cracked, swollen, oil-soaked or has moved relative to the hub, and whenever the engine has been run with a known torsional or vibration problem
• Fit to clean, dry, undamaged mating faces, tightening the fasteners in the sequence and to the figures given in the workshop manual for your engine
• Use new bolts wherever the manual calls for them; the loading here is cyclic and a reused or stretched fastener is a poor risk
• While access is good, check the components it drives or couples to, and their alignment — a damper rarely fails for no reason
