🔌 Function

Corrodes preferentially to protect the IPS drives and the underwater metals bonded to them when the active corrosion protection system is not supplying current.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Anode around half consumed or worse
• Anode surface coated, insulated or no longer electrically bonded
• Rapid or uneven consumption pointing to an electrical or galvanic fault
• Corrosion protection alarms or faults recorded at the helm
• Drive surfaces showing pitting, paint blistering or abnormal corrosion

🛠️ Service Notes

• No anodes are consumed while the active system is running, so a back-up anode that has wasted heavily usually means the system has been in monitoring-only mode or switched off
• Keep shore power connected while berthed: below 75% battery state of charge the system monitors only and this anode does the work, and below 50% the system is inactive
• Fit onto clean bare metal and leave it unpainted, since bonding is what makes it work
• Protection falls back onto this anode when the active system is in monitor-only mode or inactive
• This is the integrated type, as distinct from the separately transom mounted back-up anode
