A genuine Volvo Penta standard-size rear main-bearing kit for the GM-based 4.3-litre V6 marine petrol engine. It is installed at the fourth and rearmost crankshaft main journal and incorporates the thrust faces that control crankshaft end movement. Only one 21180054 kit is required per engine. Main journals 1-3 use three separate 21180021 kits.

• Crankshaft end float exceeds specification
• Rear-main bearing knock or low oil pressure develops

• Metal debris is found in the oil filter
• Propeller or drive loads have damaged the crankshaft thrust surface

🛠️ Service Notes

• Work scrupulously clean — a bearing will not tolerate grit — and inspect the shaft and housing seats before fitting; if they are worn, fretted or out of shape the new bearing will not last, however well it goes in
• Press or draw the bearing on by loading only the race being fitted, squarely, so the load never passes through the balls or rollers, and never strike a bearing directly
• Fit everything supplied in the kit as a set — do not pair a new bearing with an old race, and keep matched pairs together and the right way round
• Lubricate with the grease or oil specified for that position before the bearing is loaded, and set any preload or end float to the figure and method given in the workshop manual for your engine
• Turn the assembly by hand to feel and listen for roughness before it goes back into service, and check it for heat after the first run under load
