🔌 Function
The pump circulates freshwater coolant through the cylinder block, cylinder head, radiator or heat exchanger to control engine temperature.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Coolant leakage from the pump
- Bearing or impeller noise
- Pulley or shaft wobble
- Reduced coolant circulation
- Coolant entering the bearing cavity
- Pump seizure
🛠️ Service Notes
- Fit a new gasket or seal at the pump mounting face; the original will not reseal once disturbed
- Confirm the housing and pulley configuration match the pump being removed before fitting, since these must be consistent for correct drive alignment and coolant sealing
- Bleed or prime the cooling system after installation to clear any air introduced during the pump change
- Check the impeller and bearing for free rotation before returning the engine to service
