It contains the liner, piston, rings, piston pin, clips and sealing components required to rebuild one cylinder. The later liner design applies from engine serial 1012638800. On engines built before this change, Volvo requires all six cylinders to be converted together using overhaul kit 21223179.

🔌 Function

The kit restores the piston, cylinder bore, compression seal, oil control and liner-to-block coolant sealing for one cylinder.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Compression is low or crankcase blow-by is excessive
• Liner is scored, cavitated or cracked
• Piston or rings are damaged
• Coolant enters the crankcase around the liner seals
• Early and late liner designs have been mixed in one engine

🛠️ Service Notes

• Clean the liner seats and the O-ring grooves in the block thoroughly and check them for corrosion pitting or fretting before any liner goes in — a poor seat is the usual cause of a repeat failure
• Measure liner protrusion above the block face dry, without the O-rings fitted, taking readings at several points around each liner and comparing them with the figures in the workshop manual for your engine — and do not try to correct insufficient protrusion by stacking extra rings or shims under the liner flange
• Keep each liner with its own bore position once measured, and fit the O-rings in the order and orientation specified, lubricated as the manual directs
• Fit the liners with an appropriate press or drawing arrangement so they go in square, never by hammering
• Protect the finished bores from rust and knocks until the pistons go in, and never run a new liner against worn or reused rings
