🔧 Product Description

A hardened retaining ring installed at each end of the piston pin on selected Volvo Penta D5, D8 and TAD engines. Two rings are normally required per piston to prevent lateral movement of the pin.

🔌 Function

Retains the piston pin within the piston and prevents the pin from contacting the cylinder liner.

• Scoring along the cylinder liner
• Piston-pin movement or knocking
• Broken ring fragments in the sump
• Damaged piston retaining groove
• Severe piston and liner damage

🛠️ Service Notes

• Always fit a new lock ring rather than reusing one; once it has been spread to fit it has lost some of its grip
• Use the correct tool and open the ring only as far as it needs to go — a ring that has been over-spread or nipped in a vice will not hold
• Check that the groove is clean and undamaged and that the ring is seated fully round its whole circumference before the assembly is loaded
• Fit the ring the right way round where one face is chamfered or dished, with the square-cornered face against the load
• Reject any ring showing a twist, a bright rubbed patch or a nick, and never grind or file one to fit
