🛠️ Service Notes

• Fitting a crankshaft is a full bottom-end job — the block, bearing housings and oil ways all want checking, and the journals measuring for size, taper and ovality, before anything is assembled
• Wash out every oil way in the new shaft and blow it through; swarf or preservative left in a gallery will destroy the new bearings
• Fit new main and big-end shells and thrust washers, and check running clearance and crankshaft end float against the figures in the workshop manual for your engine rather than assuming they are right
• Oil the shells and journals on assembly, tighten the bearing caps in the sequence and to the tightening figures and angles specified for your engine, and turn the shaft by hand after each cap to confirm nothing binds
• Renew the front and rear crankshaft seals, inspect the flywheel, damper, pulley and their fasteners while the access is good, then prime the lubricating system and confirm oil pressure before the engine is run up under load
