Genuine Volvo Penta engine-speed sensor used on a specified electronically controlled diesel installation. It detects passing teeth or timing features on the flywheel or timing wheel and supplies the ECU with the crankshaft-speed signal required for starting, injection timing, protection and speed display.

🔌 Function

Generates the engine-speed and crank-position pulse train used by the ECU for injection control, starting and overspeed protection.

🛠️ Service Notes

• Note exactly how the old sensor sits before removing it, and keep the tip and its bore spotlessly clean — metal swarf collected on the sensor face is a common cause of an erratic signal
• Fit a new O-ring or seal, lightly lubricated, and take care not to knock the tip against the flywheel or gear teeth as it goes in
• Where the sensor sets its own gap do not force it home; where the gap is adjustable, set it with the correct tool to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine
• Check the target teeth for damage, and the harness, screening and connector for corroded pins or chafing, before blaming the sensor
• Tighten the fixing to the specified figure, route and clip the lead as it was, and clear any stored fault codes before test running
