A precision spacer used in the camshaft and timing-gear assembly on selected Volvo Penta TAD13 generating-set engines. It establishes the correct axial position of the camshaft or gear.

🔌 Function

Positions the camshaft or timing gear axially to maintain correct gear mesh and valve timing.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Excessive camshaft end float
  • Timing-gear noise
  • Uneven gear wear
  • Spacer scoring or distortion
  • Incorrect valve timing after assembly

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Refit the spacer in the same position and the same way round as it came out; many spacers set an end float, an alignment or a preload and are not simply packing
  • Never leave a spacer out, substitute plain washers for it, or stack washers to make up a missing one
  • Keep the faces clean, flat and free of burrs and old sealant, and check the spacer itself for wear, scoring or having been drawn down out of shape
  • Where several spacers or shims come out together, keep them in order and refit them in the same sequence
  • Tighten the fastening to the figure given in the workshop manual for your engine, then check any clearance or end float the spacer controls
