• Antenna becomes loose
• Ring cracks or loses clamping tension
• Water enters around the mounting point

• Corrosion prevents antenna removal

🛠️ Service Notes

• Fit a new ring rather than reusing one that has been distorted, stretched or corroded — a ring that no longer pulls square will never seal, whatever you do to the fastener
• Clean both joint faces and check them for damage, then bring the two halves together square and fully engaged before the ring is tightened; do not use the ring to pull a misaligned joint into line
• Tighten evenly and progressively, working the ring round so it seats all the way about rather than pulling it up hard in one go, and stop at the figure given in the workshop manual for your engine
• Do not overtighten to stop a leak — it distorts the ring and the flanges and makes the joint worse
• Bring the engine up to temperature and recheck the ring once it has been through a full heat cycle, since expansion and contraction will settle the joint
