• A protecting screen is there to keep hands, hoses and wiring away from hot or moving parts — refit it before the engine is run, not at the end of the job
• Mount it on its own bushes, spacers and shouldered fasteners in the original order; those parts set the standoff gap and stop the screen drumming against what it protects
• Check clearance all round with the engine stopped, then look for rub marks after the first run — a screen touching a belt, pulley or pipe does more harm than no screen at all
• Renew a screen that is cracked, distorted or has lost a mounting point rather than straightening it, and replace missing bushes so the fasteners are not clamped down onto bare metal
