Genuine Volvo Penta heavy-duty crankshaft oil seal used across specified D11, D12, D13 and D16 marine and industrial engines. The seal controls engine-oil leakage at the crankshaft and must be installed with the correct tool, orientation and depth on an unworn shaft surface. Front and rear positions can use different seal references, so the illustrated position must be verified.

Retains lubricating oil inside the crankcase while allowing the crankshaft to rotate through the front or rear housing.

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Examine the sealing surface on the shaft or wear sleeve before fitting; a groove worn by the old seal will leak past a new one, and the workshop manual for your engine will say whether the surface may be reused, resleeved or must be renewed
  • Fit the seal with a driver or press that bears on its outer face all the way round, so it enters square and to the depth the manual specifies — a seal driven in cocked or too deep will leak
  • Many crankshaft seals use a PTFE lip that must be fitted completely dry, with no oil or grease on the lip or the shaft, and arrive with a plastic fitting sleeve that stays in place until the seal is home; check what the manual specifies before lubricating anything
  • Make sure the housing and seal seat are clean and undamaged, and take care not to fold or nick the lip as it passes over the shaft, keyway or shoulder
  • Check the crankcase ventilation and breather before blaming the seal; a blocked breather pressurises the crankcase and will push oil past a new seal just as it did the old one
