Genuine removable strainer basket used in the engine-mounted seawater filter of Volvo Penta D4 and D6 marine diesel engines. It catches weed, shell and debris before raw water reaches the seawater pump, coolers and heat exchanger.

🔌 Function

The strainer removes large debris from incoming seawater before it enters the pump and engine cooling circuit.

• Reduced seawater flow
• Strainer basket blocked with weed or shell
• Cracked or distorted basket
• Debris passing into the pump

🛠️ Service Notes

• Note which way round the strainer sits before removal — most are directional, and one fitted the wrong way will not hold debris and may collapse
• Clean by flushing from the clean side and washing the mesh out; renew the strainer if the mesh is torn, deformed, corroded or blocked solid
• Renew the seals or gaskets at the joint whenever the strainer is disturbed, and make sure the strainer seats fully in its housing so nothing can bypass it
• Look at what the old strainer has caught before fitting the new one — the debris is telling you about the condition of something upstream
• Check the joint for leaks, or for air being drawn in, once the system is refilled and running
