🔌 Function

The safety element provides backup filtration downstream of the main air filter. It helps prevent unfiltered air from entering the engine if the primary element develops a leak or is removed during maintenance.

🛠️ Service Notes

• Renew the insert as a unit at the service point for your engine — a filter element is not something to clean out and put back, and washing one drives trapped dirt through to the clean side
• Make sure the old sealing ring has come out with the old element; a doubled-up seal left in the housing is one of the commonest causes of a leak or a filter that will not prime after a service
• Fit the new seals and O-rings supplied with the insert, lightly lubricated with the fluid the filter is handling unless the manual for your engine says otherwise
• Fit the element the right way round and seat it fully on its spigot before closing the housing, then tighten the cover or bowl to the manual figure — plastic housings are easily split by overtightening
• Prime or bleed the housing as the manual describes, then run up and check for leaks and for correct pressure or flow before leaving the boat
