🔧 Product Description

Model-specific thermal insulation section within the inlet and exhaust system on Volvo Penta D13B-C MP engines. This shaped insulation piece fits its designated location around the hot exhaust-side components and is not interchangeable with the other insulation sections used in the same assembly.

🚤 Compatibility

Typically suits:

  • Volvo Penta D13C2-A MP
  • Volvo Penta D13C4-A MP
  • Volvo Penta D13B-G MP
  • Volvo Penta D13B-L MP
  • Volvo Penta D13B-K MP
  • Volvo Penta D13B-C MP
  • Volvo Penta D13C6-A MP
  • Volvo Penta D13C5-A MP
  • Engine Family: D

⚙️ Key Features

  • Genuine Volvo Penta shaped exhaust insulation section
  • Installation position: 8 in the D13B-C MP inlet and exhaust assembly
  • Reduces radiant heat transfer into the engine compartment
  • Helps protect nearby wiring, hoses, brackets and service personnel
  • Direct replacement for a damaged, oil-soaked or missing original section
  • Engine type: Volvo Penta D13 12.8-litre inline six-cylinder marine diesel

🔌 Function

Contains radiant and convected heat around its assigned exhaust-system section. Correct insulation lowers engine-room surface temperatures and reduces heat exposure to surrounding components.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Torn, crushed or missing insulation material
  • Burnt, discoloured or oil-saturated outer covering
  • Excessive heat affecting nearby wiring, hoses or paintwork
  • Loose fasteners or insulation movement caused by vibration
  • Higher engine-room heat or hot spots around the uncovered exhaust section

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Refit every shield and insulation panel before the engine is run — they are there to keep exhaust and manifold surface temperatures down in an enclosed engine space, and leaving one off is a genuine fire risk as well as making the space unbearable
  • Check that the standoffs, spacers, clips and fasteners go back with the panel; the air gap they hold is what does the insulating, so a panel clamped flat to the manifold is not doing its job
  • Renew insulation that is charred, crushed, torn, delaminated or has been soaked with oil or fuel — once contaminated it cannot be cleaned and it becomes the ignition source it was fitted to prevent
  • Find and fix the leak first if the old insulation was oil-soaked or fuel-soaked; a new panel fitted over a live leak will be ruined again
  • Check clearance to hoses, cables and the wiring loom once refitted, and make sure nothing can chafe against the shield edge with engine movement

  • Companion insulation references within the same assembly: 21321057, 21321058, 21321059 / 22855249 and 21594762
  • 22316856 - associated exhaust-insulation conversion kit; contents and applicability must be checked separately
