🛠️ Service Notes
- A spacer sleeve sets a fixed length in the joint — never leave one out, shorten one, or substitute a stack of washers, or the clamping load and alignment will both be wrong
- Check that the sleeve is square and fully seated in its counterbore or recess before any fastener is tightened
- Discard a sleeve that is crushed, bell-mouthed, scored or corroded; a shortened sleeve lets the joint be over-clamped and the component distorted
- On sleeves in an oil circuit, make sure the bore is clear and that any seal running on the sleeve has a clean, unscored surface to work against
- Tighten the joint to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine, with the sleeve taking the clamping load rather than the component it protects
