🛠️ Service Notes
- Always secure the pin with a new split pin, cotter or retaining clip; never reuse the old one and never substitute wire or a nail, because a linkage that comes apart at sea is a control failure
- Check the pin and both holes for wear, ovality and scoring — a worn pin and elongated holes give a slack, vague linkage even when nothing is broken
- Make sure the pin is the correct diameter and length so the head seats properly and the retaining hole clears the yoke fully
- Lubricate lightly on assembly as the manual for your engine specifies, then work the linkage through its full travel by hand and check it moves freely and does not bind or foul at either end
