🔌 Function

Converts low-voltage battery power into the high voltage required to fire the spark plugs.

🛠️ Service Notes

• Isolate the battery before disturbing ignition components, and never crank or run the engine with a high-tension connection left off
• Fit the coil clean and dry, with the boot, seal and terminals free of moisture and corrosion; a thin film of silicone dielectric grease inside the boot keeps damp and salt out of the connection without packing the contact itself
• Renew the spark plug the coil fires where it is due, along with any lead or boot that is hardened, cracked or showing tracking marks
• Seat the boot fully onto the plug and latch the low-tension connector properly — a partly seated coil will misfire under load even though it looks fitted
• Mount the coil securely to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine and support the harness so vibration is not carried into the connector
