21474588 Gear | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

🔧 Product Description

A precision-toothed camshaft gear used in the timing-gear train of selected Volvo Penta diesel engines.

⚙️ Key Features

• Genuine Volvo Penta camshaft gear
• Precision-machined tooth profile
• Maintains correct camshaft timing
• Designed for heavy-duty diesel gear-train loads
• Requires inspection of the mating gears during installation
• Engine type: Volvo Penta turbocharged diesel

🔌 Function

Transfers crankshaft timing motion to the camshaft at the required speed and phase.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Timing-gear noise
• Pitted or chipped teeth
• Incorrect valve timing
• Metal debris in the timing housing
• Excessive backlash or gear vibration

🛠️ Service Notes

• Inspect the mating gear as well as the one being renewed; a chipped or worn tooth on the partner will quickly ruin a new gear, so change them as a pair where the wear is shared
• Check the shaft, bush or bearing the gear runs on for wear and scoring before assembly and renew anything that is not to size
• Fit the gear square and press it home rather than driving it with hammer blows, which spread the bore and mark the teeth
• Oil the teeth and bearing surfaces on assembly so the gear is not run up dry on first start
• Where the workshop manual for your engine gives backlash, end float or timing settings for the gear, set and check them to those figures rather than by feel
