🛠️ Service Notes
- Fit the retainer the right way round so the captive nut sits square to its hole and the fastener enters without cross-threading
- Renew retainers that are corroded or have lost their spring tension rather than reusing them; one that no longer grips lets the nut spin or drop out of reach behind a panel
- Clean the panel or flange and its hole before fitting, and treat corrosion at the same time — this is usually what killed the original
- Match the retainer to the fastener thread and size, and remember the retainer only locates and holds the nut, so do not rely on it to take a heavy tightening load
