🔌 Function

The pump draws fuel from the supply tank and delivers it at low pressure to the filter and injection equipment.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Hard starting or loss of prime
  • Low fuel-supply pressure
  • Engine losing power under load
  • Fuel leakage from the pump body
  • Oil contamination from a failed pump seal
  • Pump not delivering fuel during cranking

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Work clean: cap the pipes and ports as they come off and keep dirt out of the fuel side, since contamination is the commonest reason a new pump has a short life
  • Renew the sealing rings, gaskets and any drive or pushrod parts specified for the job, and check the drive and the mounting face for wear before the pump goes on
  • Establish why the old pump failed and fit new fuel filters at the same time — water or debris in the tank will take out the replacement too
  • Prime and bleed the system by the procedure for your engine before cranking, and do not run a diesel pump dry
  • Check every joint you disturbed for leaks with the engine running, and again once it has been up to temperature
