⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Water contamination in the drive lubricant
• Lubricant leakage from the intermediate housing
• Milky or emulsified drive oil
• Corrosion near the shaft or bearing
• A hardened, torn or grooved sealing lip

🛠️ Service Notes

• Note which way round the old seal sits before you pull it out; a lip seal only holds one way and fitting it reversed guarantees a leak
• Check the shaft or wear sleeve the seal runs on — a groove worn by the old seal, or any burr, nick or rust in the running band, will cut a new seal straight away
• Clean the housing bore, then press the seal in square using a drift or tool that bears on the outer face of the seal, never on the lip, and take it to the depth the original sat at
• Lightly oil or grease the lip and the shaft before assembly so the seal is not run dry on start-up, and keep grit away from the lip
• Sleeve or tape over splines, keyways, threads and step edges when passing the seal over them, and never lever the lip past an edge with a screwdriver
