🛠️ Service Notes

• Refit the cover before the engine is run — its job is to keep hands, hoses and wiring away from hot or moving parts, and the engine should not be run in service without it
• Check every fastener, clip, grommet and spacer is present and correct; a guard held on by fewer fixings than it should have will vibrate, crack and chafe what it is protecting
• With the cover fitted, check clearance to moving parts, belts and hot surfaces all the way round, and turn the engine over by hand where anything is close
• Renew rather than repair a cover that is cracked, deformed or has been previously patched, and do not modify or drill it to clear a component
• Take the chance while it is off to inspect what it covers for chafe marks, heat damage and rubbing, and correct the cause before the cover goes back on
