🛠️ Service Notes
- A flame shield is a safety part: it must be refitted complete and correctly positioned before the engine is run, and the engine should not be operated with it missing or damaged
- Fit it the right way round and with the designed clearance to whatever it shields, using its own fasteners, so that it neither touches the hot surface nor fouls anything that moves
- Keep it clean and dry — oil or fuel on or soaked into a shield defeats its purpose and is itself a fire risk, so trace and cure any leak that is wetting it
- Renew a shield that is cracked, burnt through, badly distorted or missing its fixings rather than patching it, and check its fasteners whenever the surrounding area is disturbed
