• Note the routing before removing the old line and reproduce it exactly, keeping the run clear of hot surfaces, sharp edges and moving parts and using the original clips and grommets
• Cut the line squarely to the same length as the one it replaces and push it fully home over each spigot; a short line pulls at its connections and a long one chafes or kinks
• Check the spigots and unions are clean and undamaged, and inspect the whole run for hardening, cracking, softening and collapse rather than replacing only the section that failed
• Support the line so it cannot be trapped or stretched when covers, brackets or the engine itself move on its mounts
• With the engine running, check the circuit holds and that the actuator or component it feeds responds properly before the job is signed off
