• Belongs to the closed crankcase ventilation circuit, joining at the oil separator and breather pipe. On a closed system the blow-by is returned to the engine rather than vented, so a leak here admits unmetered air to the intake as well as releasing oil mist into the engine bay.
• Volvo Penta lists this number as replacing 21805424, so an engine built with the earlier hose takes this part.
• The hose is moulded to a set shape. Refit it on its original route with the original clamps and brackets, without stretching or twisting it to make it reach.
• Clean both spigots, push the hose fully home and tighten the two clamps evenly to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine. Renew clamps that are corroded or distorted instead of pulling them tighter.
• While the circuit is apart, check the separator and the check-valve and oil-return side of the system. A blocked closed-ventilation circuit raises crankcase pressure and can carry oil into the inlet.
