Generates the high-voltage spark required to ignite the air-fuel mixture in one cylinder.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Cylinder-specific misfire
- Rough idle or loss of power

- Cracked housing or carbon tracking
- Misfire under load or when hot
🛠️ Service Notes
- Isolate the battery before disturbing ignition components, and never crank or run the engine with a high-tension connection left off
- Fit the coil clean and dry, with the boot, seal and terminals free of moisture and corrosion; a thin film of silicone dielectric grease inside the boot keeps damp and salt out of the connection without packing the contact itself
- Renew the spark plug the coil fires where it is due, along with any lead or boot that is hardened, cracked or showing tracking marks
- Seat the boot fully onto the plug and latch the low-tension connector properly — a partly seated coil will misfire under load even though it looks fitted
- Mount the coil securely to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine and support the harness so vibration is not carried into the connector
