Type I is the aluminium Duoprop range for Aquamatic DPS and DPS-A sterndrives, the drives with straight propeller-shaft splines. The patented blade geometry and large active propeller diameter give optimal performance and fuel efficiency over the entire speed range, together with smooth running, excellent grip and manoeuvrability. Squeeze casting and a special high-strength aluminium alloy make Type I propellers stronger and more durable than traditional die-cast propellers, and four layers of paint give excellent anti-corrosion performance. This is the I8 rear propeller; the matching front propeller is 21260648, and the pair is also listed as set 21258488. Every set of Duoprop propellers is designed, tested and manufactured together, so the front and rear propellers of a dimension belong to each other.

The rear propeller works with the matched front propeller to produce efficient counter-rotating thrust, strong acceleration and improved steering control.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Vibration through the hull or drive that grows worse as revs rise
• Boat slow onto the plane and down on top speed for the same engine revs
• Blade edges chipped, curled or bent after grounding or striking debris
• Engine revs climbing with no matching increase in boat speed, pointing to a slipping hub bush
• Blade faces pitted, greyed or eroded by cavitation or by a spent drive anode

🛠️ Service Notes

• Renew or refurbish as a matched pair with the front propeller 21260648 - a damaged half against a new one leaves the drive out of balance
• At 1.281 kg the published weight sits far below the other Type I rear propellers listed here, which run from 3.901 to 5.897 kg, so treat it as unreliable and order by the dimension code
• Check the drive anodes and the propeller shaft seal, and clear any line from behind the hub, while the propeller is off
• Always use type F or FH stainless steel propellers in 6-cylinder diesel engines or engines exceeding 240 hp or capable of speeds above 38 knots (45 mph).
• Type I sets replace the earlier Type D sets. Do not mix Type D and Type I propellers - always use propellers of the same type and size on the drive, or on both drives in twin installations.
• Type IH is the matching range for DPS-B drives, which have helical (spiral) splines. A Type I propeller will not fit a DPS-B drive.
• Installation hardware for types D, I, IH, F and FH: rear propeller nut 21631162 (included in Type I propeller sets), front propeller nut 3851569.
