The cable connects the coolant-level circuit to the engine instruments and alarm system.

  • False low-coolant warning
  • No warning with low coolant
  • Intermittent alarm
  • Open or shorted cable conductors

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Isolate the battery before disconnecting or reconnecting anything, and make sure connectors are clean, dry and fully latched before switching the system back on
  • Route the new cable along the original path and secure it with the original clips, ties and stand-offs; unsupported cable chafes through wherever it touches a bracket, hose or edge
  • Keep the run clear of the exhaust and turbocharger, away from moving parts and sharp edges, and use a grommet or gland wherever it passes through a panel or bulkhead
  • Protect the connections against damp — a properly seated and sealed connector survives an engine bilge atmosphere far better than a taped joint
  • Replace a damaged cable rather than patching it; where a repair is unavoidable use a crimped and sealed joint, never solder as the only mechanical connection
