- Wiring insulation near the shielded unit hardened, cracked or discoloured
- Intermittent control or sensor faults that come on when the engine is hot
- Rattling or buzzing from the shield area at particular engine speeds
- Shield found cracked at its fixings or bowed into contact with what it protects
🛠️ Service Notes
- Refit all standoffs so the shield keeps its air gap; resting against the hot part or against the unit it protects defeats it
- Inspect the harness behind the shield while it is off, as heat damage there causes faults blamed on the control unit
