🔌 Function

Transfers engine torque to an auxiliary pump or driven machine through the PTO shaft and bearing assembly.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Whine, growl or rumble from the PTO that follows engine speed
  • Oil weeping from the PTO shaft seal or its housing joint
  • Play or wobble felt at the output shaft
  • Bearings found rough or the drive gear teeth pitted on strip-down
  • Driven equipment losing drive or slipping under load

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Renew the housing gasket and shaft seal when the assembly is refitted
  • Check the driven equipment's alignment and its own coupling before refitting - misalignment is what kills PTO bearings
