Fastens and clamps a fuel system component to its mounting or joint face, holding the sealing faces together at the correct load.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Diesel weeping from a joint that will not stay tight
  • Screw head socket rounded out so a key no longer bites
  • Screw found seized, or its thread pulled or corroded, on removal
  • Component able to be rocked on its mounting because the fastener has slackened

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Use a socket or key that engages the head fully and squarely; a worn or part-inserted tool rounds the flats and turns a simple job into a drilling job
  • Clean the threads and the seating face, and check the screw for stretched or corroded threads and a damaged head — renew rather than reuse anything doubtful
  • Where the original was fitted with a thread-locking or sealing compound, or with a washer or seal, fit the same again; many of these screws seal a fuel or oil passage as well as clamping it
  • Tighten to the figure and sequence given in the workshop manual for your engine, working evenly across a multi-screw joint rather than pulling one screw fully down at a time
  • A smear of a suitable marine anti-seize on exposed threads makes the next removal far easier, but keep it off threads meant to be locked or sealed
