• Use everything the kit supplies — the point of an overhaul kit is that every wearing seal and gasket is renewed at once, and leaving one original seal in place is the usual cause of a repeat failure
• Work clean: these kits go into fuel, oil, cooling and hydraulic units where a single piece of grit will ruin the job, so clean the outside of the unit and cap open ports before opening it up
