🛠️ Service Notes

• Work with the unit clean and dry and lay the parts out in order as they come off, so shims, spacers and thrust parts go back exactly as they were
• Renew the seals and O-rings on the carrier as a matter of course — they are what keeps water out of the bearings
• Press bearings and races in and out squarely with the correct tooling, driving only on the race being fitted and never through the balls or rollers
• Lubricate the bearings and seals with the grade specified for that unit before assembly, and set the retaining hardware to the torque and preload figures in the workshop manual
• Check the shaft turns freely with no rock or drag, then refill with the correct lubricant and pressure-test the unit for water tightness before it goes back into service
