• Check the bore is clear and the ends are clean, round and undamaged before fitting — a burred or distorted end will not let the seal or mating part land true
• Renew the O-rings, seals or gaskets that work with the sleeve rather than reusing them, and lubricate rubber seals with a lubricant compatible with the fluid in that system
• Push or draw the sleeve fully home and square in its bore so it seats to the depth the workshop manual for your engine gives, without cocking it or driving on an unsupported edge
• Keep the assembly clean while fitting so no swarf, sealant or grit is carried into the passage the sleeve serves, and check for leaks once the system is up to pressure
