🛠️ Service Notes

  • Clean and inspect the housing bore before assembly — scoring, ovality, discoloration or signs of a bearing having spun in the bore mean the housing must be replaced, not reused
  • Press or draw bearings in squarely, supporting the housing properly and applying force to the housing and bearing race that is being fitted; never pull a bearing home using the shaft or the mounting fasteners
  • Fit new seals and O-rings, and lubricate the bearing and seal lips with the grease or oil specified in the workshop manual for your engine before closing up
  • Follow the manual's shimming, endfloat and preload procedure for the assembly rather than judging it by feel
  • Turn the assembly by hand before it goes back into service; it should rotate smoothly with no roughness, tight spots or unexpected play
