🔌 Function

Meters the air going into the engine under the control of the engine-control module, opening and closing the throttle plate on command and reporting its actual position back for checking.

• Erratic or hunting idle, or the engine dropping to a limited-power mode
• Throttle response lagging or sticking off idle
• Warning lamp with throttle or pedal-position fault codes stored
• Bore and plate edge found coked with a black deposit ring on inspection
• Actuator gear or return spring found worn or binding on strip-down

🛠️ Service Notes

• Clean the bore and plate and check the air path for leaks before condemning the body - a coked bore and a split inlet hose both give the same idle complaint
• The throttle position generally needs relearning after fitting; follow the workshop procedure before running the engine up
• Keep hands clear of the plate with the ignition live - the actuator can move without warning
