🔌 Function
Pivots to convert the push rod's motion into valve motion at the intake valve, opening it against its spring in step with the camshaft.

- Tick or tap from the valve gear that follows engine speed
- Noise unchanged or worse once the engine is hot
- Pad or roller worn, pitted or flat-spotted on strip-down
- Play at the pivot when the arm is rocked by hand
- Bearing rollers broken up, with bright metal in the oil
