Genuine Volvo Penta Flame-Retardant Engine Air-Filter Insert, part number 21914608. A genuine radial-seal air-filter element used in selected Volvo Penta industrial diesel inlet systems. It supersedes earlier insert 21377915 and filters combustion air before it reaches the turbocharger.

🔌 Function

Traps dust and debris out of the combustion air so the turbocharger, bores and rings only ever see clean air.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Black smoke, lost power and higher fuel use
  • Intake restriction indicator tripped, or a high vacuum reading at the filter
  • Visible dust or dirt downstream of the element
  • Element face blackened, blinded or oil-soaked
  • Radial seal band split, hardened or showing an uneven witness mark

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Fit a radial-seal element dry and by hand, pushing it fully home so the seal band grips the housing spigot all the way round - it seals on that band, not on an end gasket
  • Do not tap out or wash the element to reuse it, and check the housing and intake pipework for a dirt track whenever a used element is replaced
  • Reset the intake restriction indicator after fitting
