• This is the blade of the boat's trim system rather than any part of the drive; it is the surface the trim cylinders push down against the water flow under the hull.
• Trim flaps are sized and handed and work as a pair - fit the same size on both sides and check the opposite flap and its cylinder mounting at the same time, or the boat will trim unevenly.
• The mounting fixings pass through the transom below the waterline: bed the flap and its fasteners on a suitable marine sealant, and check that area for water ingress after the boat is first put back in.
• Inspect the hinge and the cylinder attachment for corrosion and for play before deciding the flap alone is at fault - the blade lives in seawater and takes the load of the whole trim system.
• Check the trim system through its full travel after fitting and confirm the flap returns fully up before hauling out or trailering.
