🔌 Function

Encloses the timing gear train, keeping oil in and dirt out while locating the covers, seals and any front-mounted drives that bolt to it.

• Oil leak at the front of the engine, with drips down the timing cover face
• Oil misting or weeping around the crankshaft seal area
• Casing face damaged, corroded or no longer flat
• Cracks around bolt holes or dowel positions
• Gasket blown or displaced, or a seal bore worn oval, on strip-down

🛠️ Service Notes

• Renew the gaskets and the front seal whenever the casing is off, and clean both faces properly before assembly
• Fit the casing using its dowels or alignment tool so the seal runs true on the crankshaft, and pull the fasteners down evenly
• Check the seal running surface on the shaft for a wear groove before blaming the casing for a leak
