🔌 Function

The screws clamp the pump end cover uniformly against its gasket or O-ring, containing seawater and maintaining the correct impeller working chamber.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Screw heads are rounded or corroded
• Threads are stretched or damaged
• Cover cannot be tightened evenly
• A screw has seized in the pump body
• Pump cover has been removed repeatedly for impeller service

🛠️ Service Notes

• Use the complete kit on the joint rather than mixing new fasteners with used ones — the screws are supplied together because the joint has to be clamped evenly
• Treat them as single-use items: many engine and drive screws are angle-tightened or stretch fasteners and will not give the same clamp load a second time
• Check that the threads and the faces the screws pull against are clean and undamaged, clear any old thread-locking compound out of female threads, and fit any washers supplied with the kit
• Tighten to the figures and in the sequence given in the workshop manual for your engine, including any angle-tightening stage, and only use a lubricant or locking compound where the manual calls for it
• Recheck for tightness after the first running period where the manual requires it, rather than assuming a new fastener will hold
